I stumbled upon Naked Beach last night, Channel 4’s aptly-named antidote to the nipple-showing superficiality of Love Island. Naked Beach was a good show.

Gunnison is a nude beach and people are naked here, but they observe a fair bit of nude-beach etiquette. They don’t litter, get sexual or wander outside of the clothing optional areas.

1. Getting Started

For some, a trip to the beach means letting their inhibitions go and feeling naked for the first time. For others, it’s about absorbing the nourishing vitamin D, grounding themselves on sand crystals, or using their nude bodies to inspire paintings and be at one with nature.

Regardless of why you’re there, the most important thing is to respect everyone’s privacy. While the odd glance and hello is fine, avoid staring or ogling people, especially since they may feel vulnerable in their buff state. Also, avoid taking pictures of other people, unless you have their permission. It’s considered rude to photograph strangers at a nude beach. That includes selfies. It’s also a good idea to wear sunscreen, even when you’re just walking around the beach.

2. Getting Ready

Before you go to a nude beach, make sure you know the rules. Nudity at beaches is often prohibited in clothing-required areas such as the parking lot or public areas of the beach. You may also want to have a bathing suit on hand in case you accidentally wander into these areas.

It goes without saying, but don’t take pictures of anyone else on the beach unless you have their permission. It’s considered rude, and it could get you escorted off the beach or even arrested.

Bring your usual beach materials, such as an engaging book or some music. This will help you relax and enjoy your time in the buff. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen! It’s important to protect yourself from melanoma, which can be painful and deadly.

5. Getting Out Of The Water

Most beaches will have their nude sections clearly marked with signs or spray painted FKK, but some more wild nudist beaches are more off the beaten path. If you’re exploring these spots, make sure to bring everything you might need (i.e water, snacks, something to sit on) and be mindful of where you are and who else is around.
